A History of the Odd Fellows in Iowa:

The first Subordinate Lodge instituted in Iowa was Washington Lodge No. 1 at Burlington, April 4, 1848.  The Grand Lodge of Iowa was instituted at Bloomington May 1, 1838.

Iowa's first Encampment was Halcyon Encampment No. 1 which was înstituted at Dubuque February 25, 1852. The Grand Encampment of Iowa was instituted at Muscatine June 17, 1852.

Bloomfield Rebekah Lodge No. 1 at Bloomfield was Iowa's first Rebekah Lodge, instituted December 2, 1868. The Rebekah Assembly of Iowa was instituted in l888 at Des Moines.

The first charter for a Patriarchs Militant Canton was issued to Canton Poweshiek  No.  l,  Montezuma,  December 31, 1885.  Several other charters for organizing Cantons were isued on the same date.

The first  charter for a Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant was issued to Canton Home Auxiliary No. 20, Belle Plaine, February 21, 1916.  Six other charters were issued the same year. The Department Association was formed in 1923.
